As the pandemic continues we are constantly seeing attacks evolve through malware delivery mechanisms, inventive social engineering and new exploits.\u201d<\/p><p>The report is based on the analysis of quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year data derived from Bitdefender\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitdefender.com\/business\/technologies.html\">Global Protective Network<\/a>\u00a0(GPN) that performs billions of queries per day on millions of endpoints and uses advanced algorithms to identify various threats and attack patterns.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-270c2b67 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"270c2b67\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-no\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-4b01c517\" data-id=\"4b01c517\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6f206d8e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6f206d8e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Key findings from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitdefender.com\/files\/News\/CaseStudies\/study\/395\/Bitdefender-2020-Consumer-Threat-Landscape-Report.pdf\">2020 Consumer Threat Landscape Report<\/a>\u00a0include:<\/p><ul><li><b>Ransomware attacks soar worldwide<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Overall, ransomware attacks grew an astounding 485% in 2020 when compared to 2019. Attacks in the first and second quarter of 2020 accounted for 64% of all attacks or 19% higher than the first two quarters of 2019.<\/li><li><b>Proprietary operating systems dangerous for IoT<\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Devices with proprietary operating systems make up 34% of what consumers own and responsible for 96% of all detected vulnerabilities.\u00a0Bitdefender saw an incredible 338% increase in Smart TV vulnerabilities when compared to 2019.<\/li><li><b>Android used to spread malware and malicious apps\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 As consumers flocked to video conferencing and sought\u00a0information about COVID-19, criminals took advantage by hosting fake Zoom download sites and distributing malware-laden apps to spy on users and steal personal data. Thirty-five percent of all Android malware detected came from the Android.Trojan.Agent family followed by Android.Trojan.Downloader at 10% and Android.Trojan.Banker at 7%.<\/li><li><b>Network-attached storage (NAS) devices led in number of vulnerabilities<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 The number of vulnerabilities found in NAS devices increased by 198% YoY from 2019 to 2020. While NAS devices may not be amongst the most prevalent devices in homes, they potentially pack the most number of unpatched vulnerabilities.<\/li><li><b>Potentially unwanted applications (PUA) on the rise<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 While PUA might not be malicious per se, they can impact user experience by slowing down systems, display unexpected ads or even install additional software.
